From the days of yore India has been a much coveted seat of erudition and knowledge. A stroll through the fascinating ruins of Nalanda in Bihar brings this all the more to one's notice. Spread out over a massive area of 14 hectares, the red brick walls of Nalanda holds many a story for the curious ear. It has stood a silent witness to the changing destinies of innumerable dynasties.
Once famed as a seat of great learning, Nalanda attracted students from all over the world. At one point of time it housed 10,000 students and 2,000 teachers. The entire area is lavishly laced by beautiful lawns. Being a seat of Buddhist learning the ruins houses several monasteries and temples as well. Erudite scholars and students illuminated its portals.
Having braved the ravages of time, the ruins stand as a proud symbol of the aspirations and ambitions of many a pupil of the yesteryears.
