Primer is the brainchild of Ms Kau Poh Moi, founder of alacarteLEARNING Pte Ltd [Singapore], who has more than 30 years of experience in the learning industry, in a diverse range of capacity.
She has been an ardent advocate of quality learning design and reluctantly watched the learning design competency landscape polluted by bad practices and incorrect assumptions. She is aware of the shortage of skilled Learning Designers and the resultant poor quality of learning solutions that have bugged the industry.
And these facts sowed the seeds of a vision – the idea of an innovate apprenticeship to groom potential talent into high performing learning designers. Ms Kau’s vision is to increase the overall standards of the learning industry, beginning in India – one of the world’s largest exporter of elearning solutions.
Out of this vision, Primer was born. It started in April 2010, a joint venture by Ms Kau, of alacarteLEARNING Pte Ltd and Stylus.
Like a device that has the ability to ignite and to prime an internal combustion engine, those who function as part of Primer Team will go on to serve the industry as the prime for learning revolution.
Prime, primeval, primitive have reference to that which is first. Prime means first in numerical order or order of development: prime meridian; prime cause. Primeval means belonging to the first or earliest ages: the primeval forest. Primitive suggests the characteristics of the origins or early stages of a development, and hence implies the simplicity of original things: primitive tribes, conditions, ornaments, customs, tools. (Based on the meaning and synonyms of Primer from www.dictionary.com)
This being a flagship and also a 1st in the world, it is another primary in moving Learning Design curriculum forward. Just like a first coat of paint to prepare a surface and to promote adhesion, the Primer Learning Design Apprentice Programme seals 'leaky' problems and its graduates will have the stickiness for future learning.......
As in the process of DNA replication, where a critical pre-requisite resource to start the process is the Primer, the Primer Learning Design Apprentice Programme will prepare talents to enter into the Learning Design profession.
