The learning world had seen a slow evolving growth for decades, and now we are living in exciting times, watching the long needed revolution impatiently unfold.

Main frames ['60s] have evolved into mini-computers ['70s / '80s], to desktop super-computers, to laptops ['90s] , netbooks, tablets, mobile phones, palmtops….The access to internet and greater bandwidth has opened up immense possibilities for learning. The pace of technology driven change for the learning world is set to surge..

The power of human capital must stay ahead of the curve. Along with many diverse challenges, the world is facing tectonic shifts in school curriculum, in workforce analytics, in generational demographics, and social demographics arising from borderless cultures, etc. Corporates recognise the need to intervene, and have started talent management programmes, succession planning, and increased engagements to compete for and retain good talents. Universities are stuck in between.

Businesses have to step in to fill in the gap ie to groom the talents themselves. But who is equipped to facilitate the transfer of learning? Not just mental or theoretical learning. The current competency of the professionals in the learning world is itself also a product of Universities which has not evolved. The competencies are skewed towards theory, and education-centric solutions. The corporate world is crying for real learning design. The ones that matter. The ones that affect bottom line. But silos are in the way. Where are the Learning Designers who know their stuff, walk the talk, and move the mountains?
